Are there any maintenance procedure that you cannot perform on a car by yourself?

My parents gave me their car last year, and before they used to take it to the dealership for maintenance. Is it possible that I maintain the car by myself and never take it to the repair shop unless something is broken? I already know how to do the easy basics like oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, etc.. I know a mechanic who can teach me more, if necessary.Are there any maintenance procedure that you cannot perform on a car by yourself?You can probably do anything if you have the tools to do so and someone to help you if it's a two man job. On the newer cars the filter requires a special tool to remove it from the fuel line. Another issue was when everything went to Torx head screws. The only time I have to go to a garage is to get emissions checked as the requires the use of very expensive equipment,......BUT GET A WORKSHOP MANUAL.***** then you will get some idea of what tools you are likely to need depending on how much you are prepared to tackle.
