How do I install these new tires on my car myself?

I had a dilemma when I was looking for tires for my vehicle.

The factory settings for my 2003 Mazda Protege 5 hatchback said they require a tire size of:

195/50/16v

It's the tire size that is listed on my owner's manual, as well as my driver side door.

The ones currently installed on my car are:

205/55/16

NOBODY and i mean NOBODY seems to carry the tire size 195/50/16. So I figured I'd just go ahead and order 205/55/16's like the ones that already on my car.

No chain retail sellers will install these two tires I just spent $350 on because they aren't the factory recommended tires. So that puts me out of luck.

Now I have 2 giant hunks of rubber sitting in the trunk of my car.

I know how to change a spare tire out with a car jack, and tire iron. simple.

But I just thought of this: Once I take off the old tires, how do I take the old tires off the wheels, and put the two new tires on the wheels? What kind of things will be required to put the new tires on the wheels? Will I need an air compressor for inflation?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I live alone and away from home right now so I don't know anybody who could answer my questions, and I'd rather save the money than go to a mechanic and do it myself.

Thanks again. How do I install these new tires on my car myself?Find a private garage or shop and have the tires mounted. Chain stores are not the place to get any repairs done. Most of the employees are just trained to look up things in the computer and never stray from that.

Look for a full service shop (or even a body shop) and all and ask them the cost of mounting and balancing two tires that you have. They will do it without even batting an eye about factory recommended sizes. Most service stations (with repair bays) have tire machines.

You could do it yourself, but it is not an easy task. You have to remove the tire from the car, let all the air out, and find a way to break the bead of the tire loose. You then have to pry the tire off of the rim, using two tire irons.

After you do that, you have to pry the new tire on, and re-seat the bead. This will require a high output air compressor or some tricks that I am not going to list here do to the danger of serious injury.

You will not be able to balance the tire, so after all that work you would still have to go and have the tires balanced.

Sometimes the amount of work required to do something manually makes paying to have it done a wise move. Rather than working hard for several hours, it is much better to pay to have it done. How do I install these new tires on my car myself?I have done this with my truck. I took my wheels off the truck and brought them into the shop ,(fleet farm) had them mount and balance them, they never ask what kind of vehicle it going on. The shop can be responsible if they sell you the wrong size, especially if it is a smaller tire. How do I install these new tires on my car myself? You really cannot do this without a shop. You need to properly seat the tire on the rim for it to even hold air. Not to mention, you can't just pry the old one off. How are you gonna balance it? I'd just resell the crap you bought and let a shop do it all.How do I install these new tires on my car myself? With modern tubeless tyres, it is next to impossible for anyone to change tyres hemselves without the machinery used by tyre places.

You will need to find someone willing. End of story. How do I install these new tires on my car myself?take your car to a tire dealer. they can dismount your old tires, mount your new ones and balance them. Cant do it yourself unless you have a balancer and the tools to take off old tiresHow do I install these new tires on my car myself?Harbor Freight sells tire tools.I must admit it is far more safer to let a tire shop put them on and balance them though. How do I install these new tires on my car myself? If you ever saw how tires are taken off and put on rims you would never ask your question. It takes a special machine to do the job.Go and ask more companies to change your tires. If you do not find anyone to do the job then go to Plan %26quot;B%26quot;.

Plan %26quot;B%26quot;. Park the car in a flat area. Use your jack to take off both tires to be replaced. Take the old tires and new tires to the shop. Hand them all the tires and ask them to install. If they insist on knowing ( they are unlikely to ask) what car you intend to put them on then tell them it is for a model of car that does take that size of tire ( find a suitable one before you go there). How do I install these new tires on my car myself?Take it to Mr. Tire. They have done mine for 11.99 per tire when I purchased through the Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct. They may be willing to do it if you don't bring it up, and if they do, ensure them you'll sign a waiver if you need to and that you've been running on this size already. If you don't have any luck, you'll have to take them to a small shop. Somebody who wants the business will be willing to do it.
